William Daws was a Winding Engine Driver in his civil occupation employed by the Sons of Gwalias Limited Mine W.A. and the Great Boulder Gold Mine. Whilst training in the RAAF William formed a seven piece dance band at No. 4 S.F.T.S. being the leader of the band and the pianist.
