Previous service 55th Battn A.M.F. 108 Transport A.a.s.C. Plane was a Lancaster PB688 of the 463 Sqd. which took off from Waddington, Lincolnshire to bomb the synthetic oil refinery at Politz, Germany. Over 207 Lancasters took part in the operation. PB688 returned from the operation but crashed north of the airfield. One crew member survived the crash and six were killed.
