DOWLING, Kenneth Little-John

Kenneth Dowling, in civilian life a grazier, initially enrolled in the 17th Light Horse Regiment Reserve in December 1938. He joined the RAAF as Air Crew in April 1940 and attended 1 W.A.G.S. training in Ballarat between October 1940 and April 1941. He left Australia in April 1942 posted to 10 Squadron in the U.K. He participated in 72 sorties as a wireless/gunner on the Coastal Command Sunderland aircraft, gaining his commission as a Flying Officer in 1943. He was repatriated to Australia in November 1944 and returned to 1 W.A.G.S. Ballarat as a radar operator instructor. He attained the rank of Flight Lieutenant before being formally discharged from the RAAF in June 1946.
