" Alister McGregor Currie (Mac) - Death notice in The Age (Melbourne) died 27 February 1970 Prisoner of War after the loss of Wellington II W5578 of Number 12 Squadron RAF during an attack on St Nazaire in France - 26 March 1942." Warrant Officer Currie was awarded the M.B.E for "whilst being a POW in Stalag 344 from the latter part of 1943 to the end of hostilities, had charge of the personnel of the R.A.F and Dominion Air Forces. An outstanding personality, W/Off Currie displayed the most conscientious interest in his men and it was largely owing to his persistant efforts that conditions at the camp gradually improved."
