Plane was a Lancaster 111 ED559 which was on a Gardening operation taking off from Grimsby, Lincolnshire. [ Gardening operations consisted of laying mines in harbours, rivers, estuaries etc.] It is believed the plane crashed in the target area probably due to being hit by flak. Seven crew were listed as missing, then killed.
